Summer Enrichment Program
for children July 2 - August 10
Five years ago St. Mary Magdalene parish hosted a summer enrichment program for children of newcomer families. This year we are doing it again, this time offering space for 40 children aged 9-14 through a program run by the Resource Center for Student Achievement and Enrichment (RECSAE) Inc.
RECSAE is a local registered not-for-profit organization that provides summer learning programs and after-school tutorials for newcomer, Indigenous and immigrant students. This program is led by
Charles Bendu, vice-principal of Strathcona Elementary School. It provides a variety of academic, social, cultural and social opportunities over the summer that many children from poor or struggling families would otherwise miss out on.
From English language arts and computer science to music and drama to bowling and water slides, the program works to ensure everyone has a fun and productive summer.
RECSAE has received grants from Green Team, Canada Summer Jobs and Winnipeg city councillor
Brian Mayes. Our parishioners also provided some funding support. Food for breakfast and lunch will be provided courtesy of Child Nutrition Manitoba and Winnipeg Harvest.
The program runs Mon-Fri from July 2 to August 10. For more information please call 204-881-5767.
